Ubuntu 10.04 Server Guide encourages you to modify /etc/resolv.conf to configure name resolution: "To configure your system to use DNS for name resolution, add the IP addresses of the DNS servers that are appropriate for your network in the file /etc/resolv.conf." (at https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/network-configuration.html#dns-client-configuration)
Because resolvconf is installed by default, /etc/resolv.conf is overwritten at every if-up. /etc/resolv.conf says: "# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN", but Guide says nothing about it. There should be said, that to configure name resolution, you need to add dns-nameservers line in /etc/network/interfaces. ** Summary changed: - Hardy server network configuration leads to resolvconf warnings + Server network configuration leads to resolvconf warnings/not working name resolution. -- Server network configuration leads to resolvconf warnings/not working name resolution. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441798 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
