Forgive me if I'm a bit of an Xubuntu novice.  One thing I hadn't made
clear enough in my bug report is that I installed the 64 bit version of
xubuntu.

launch pulseaudio from a terminal:  I was able to get a >>> prompty
after typing pacmd.  Is that what you're looking for?  Is there another
command I should type?

Reinstalling pulseaudio from synaptic - tried marking the package for
reinstall.  After a reboot, I still had no sound.  Should I mark it for
complete removal and then re-add?
