Hi Gamaliel, it's a **much** better idea to install things in Ubuntu using one of the ready-made Ubuntu packages unless you have a very good reason to do things manually. All of the complicated installation work is done for you!
Please try searching for qtiplot in the Ubuntu Software Centre and installing it from there. We cannot offer any support for Ubuntu software unless you use the ready-made packages.
