It started to work ok two days ago. Before, the steps were quite easy, the icon change would not work for any "Custom application launcher". It also wasn't possible to add any "Custom application launcher" to the (upper) panel.
Maybe an update has solved it. Maybe there was something wrong in my installation and I incidentally corrected it when looking for the source of the problem.
