That is the menu item for the Debian menu, which is not used in Ubuntu.
Ubuntu uses the freedesktop.org standard for menus. The menu items are
.desktop files located in /usr/share/applications/

As for the original bug. This is a bit of an issue. According to the
freedesktop.org desktop file spec Science isn't a toplevel menu entry.
Education is the closest thing. So this isn't even really a Gnome issue,
I don't think.
