OK, so I narrowed this down to my settings for ACPI USB power in the
bios..  I had it set for wake on keyboard/mouse/usb (all are usb).
These settings all worked fine with 2.6.32 and 33..

My entire USB susbsystem was dieing when this happened.  The USB
disconnect was in fact causing the ir_core oops.  I'm not sure where to
go to look into that.  Ubuntu is no longer packaging ohci/ehci/uhci as
modules to easily debug..
