Another solution (for the R.A.T.5; untested on the 7) is to simply edit the Xmodmap file to say "pointer = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 0 0 0", then reboot/restart X. This didn't require any editing of xorg.conf. Worked for 10.10; has been working on my computer for days now.
