Sorry to be a bit insistent here :

1) This bug was submitted 4 months ago : why is it still marked as "new"
?

2) Having smb:// and sftp:// directly implemented in Thunar 1.2.x will
certainly be nice, but this is another issue.

Gigolo is the default tool/method to open Windows shares (and sftp
shares) in Xubuntu 10.04, and without "gvfs-fuse" installed it can
simply not do it. The fix (making Gigolo dependent on gvfs-fuse, or
forcing the installation of gvfs-fuse ) is so simple that I don't
understand why it is not applied as a Xubuntu 10.04 update.
