Public bug reported: After fresh installation of a 32 bit .deb (For Debian/Ubuntu) from the site http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html I can't run Google Chrome. When I click on it, nothing happens.
When trying to run google-chrome from the terminal I get permission denied error messages - just like in this thread with a similar problem: "[3075:3075:1304072817:ERROR:chrome/browser/process_singleton_linux.cc(830)] Failed to create /home/rob/.config/chromium/SingletonLock: Permission denied [3075:3075:1304072975:ERROR:chrome/browser/browser_main.cc(96] Failed to create a ProcessSingleton for your profile directory. This means that running multiple instances would start multiple browser processes rather than opening a new window in the existing process. Aborting now to avoid profile corruption." http://newyork.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1488796 I am quoting this thread because I already fixed my issues by hand, so I get no error messages anymore and I can't remember them precisely - but I basically got the exact same EM only for different files. I got permission denied errors for /home/kupfer/.config/google-chrome/Local State and for /home/kupfer/.config/google-chrome/Default/Preferences and maybe other files - remember some from the .chache directory too After a fresh install I get these messages when trying to run google-chrome in the teminal. I can only start sudo google-chrome. Then Chrome starts but warns me that it can't acces my profile and some features may not be available. Reinstall didn't help. Deleting the .config and .cache directories for Chrome and THEN reinstalling didn't help either. I am now able to use Google-Chrome after following fix: I started Nautilus with superuser rights and changed the permissions for the files displayed in the error message to kupfer, my username. All files in the error messages were set to permissions: root by default. Just to be sure, I changed the permissions for all files in the .cache and .config directories from root to kupfer. Now, Chrome starts without error messages and it seems to be working fine, as I'm writing this bugreport with it. But after a fresh install, by default, it wont start - only with the fix I described. All I did was installing the google-chrome.deb with Software Center I have Chromium installed too and it is working fine by default, and the permissions in the chromium folders are good too. I'm running a freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on an ASUS 1005PE. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: chrome chromium google -- Can't run Google Chrome Stable in Ubuntu Maverick Netbook Edition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657941 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
