I got a similar thing except it happened while I was using a 10.04 live session. Something already messed with my sound in firefox but I was able to fix it and then I tried to open ~150 tabs to find a specific video on youtube and that blocked every program from opening new windows in gnome. Then I tried to log off and now I am stuck at a one of the ctrl+alt consoles and I get bombarded with "[xxxxxx.xxxxxx] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read metadata cache entry [29e30452]" and "[yyyyyy.yyyyyy] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read inode 0x1433160592".
