Hi, I am also having the same problem. I am new to Linux / Ubuntu, so apologies for my lack of technical explanation!
Whenever I select something in the Ubuntu Software Centre and click 'install' I have the normal 'Authentication is required to Install software packages' window pop up. I enter my admin password (account password), and the password box disappears.I get the drum noise (single drum hit), the password section gos away and it just sits on the Authenticate Windows. I am running the desktop 10.04 version and have recently installed all of the Ubuntu Studio packages as per the Ubuntu help forums. If any logs would help please let me know and I'll post them here.
