I just realized that you probably wanted apport-collect run with the -22 kernel (the one that doesn't have /dev/lirc0). I've just re-ran it.
I also just tried stopping and starting lirc (via /etc/init.d/lirc) and also remove and modprobe'd the lirc_mceusb module. Still no /dev/lirc0. Thank very much for your help, by the way.
