I've got the same problem with a Phenom-quad desktop with the onboard graphics as well as ati 3870.
-This applies to Both Kubuntu and Ubuntu 32 and 64 bit, fresh install and all updates applied. -The machine freezes at random, sometimes as soon as 20 seconds after login, mostly inside 30 minutes from start. Guess it never ran for more than 3 hours with 10.04, 9.10 was without problems. -Firefox with youtube seems to crash it faster than running anything else.
