A bit continuing from #33: if we assume that dmraid is working correctly, then the question is why initramfs is created during upgrade wrongly i.e. dmraid does not activate automatically OR in case of live cd - why dmraid doesn't get activated but manual command is needed to activate raids?
Still, I think we have strongest leads to ubiquity right now so I agree with Phillip that lets try to nail this down from this corner 1st.
