I have figured out this problem is with Pulseaudio. Alsamixer lets me hear sound out of my speakers from my mic when I unmute it, and there are times when I can actually get sound to show in the sound menu and in skype, BUT then is shuts off and while alsamixer will still let me hear sound from my mic, the sound menu will now no longer show any sound. It is bizzar
