Hmmmm... I dug into the initramfs prompt a bit and I think I am on to something... The disk is mounted on /cdrom and lives as /dev/sdb1. But look at the attached screenshot - it complains that /dev/sda1 is not a valid vfat fs - which is certainly correct since /dev/sda1 is the build in hard drive containing an ext4 filesystem.
