Just tested with the latest maverick desktop amd64 image (20100928) and
it's still kind of an issue: with a mic plugged in, I can hit the mic
and headphones to get it to pick some sound, but it doesn't get voice at
all -- I suspect the sound levels are too low and there is no way to
change it (it's all mixed out).

Furthermore, jack sensing doesn't work for the speaker/headphones plug;
I have something plugged in and the sound isn't redirected, it still
comes out the integrated speakers.
