Installed the Kubuntu Beta last night, after some shenanigans on the LiveCDs part, to discover this exact system behavior- desktop appears frozen but the mouse is responsive. The difference is that the time to this error is < 5mins.
As i am not home atm i cant forward the syslog but its forthcoming. At a glaace, however, zmajch and i seem to have some Intel and ATI commonalities.
