Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu team!

I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to Maverick beta to give it a
try. Unfortunately there has been a problem with the booting procedure.
Every time the system boots I am being greeted with this screen with
white stripes all over it (http://yfrog.com/n5stripessj). The two dark
lines appear to be the welcome text hidden behind the bars prompting you
for username/password to log into console. I can login fine, but I can't
read any text. I am, however, able to access a normal and working
console by booting an earlier kernel into recovery mode and dropping to
root shell.

I've been able to recover the Xorg log file and it appears the X server
fails to start due to some screen misconfiguration. Although X doesn't
start I'm not sure why I'm even seeing white stripes instead of a normal
console. Could there be two bugs here?

Please let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Greetz!
