Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

There was a major update to Kubuntu on 2010-09-15. Careful choice of
packages was necessary in order to avoid massive removal of packages.

After the partial update, KDE would not start. Entering username and
password began splash screen but almost instantly kicked back to login
screen.

Remainder of large update was available 2010-09-16 and all packages
installed without incident.

However, KDE session continues to fail to load. Symptom remains that
entering username and password begins splash screen but almost instantly
kicks back to login screen.

In effort to work around errors, have backed up existing ~/.kde
directory and allowed new one to be created. This changed nothing.

Have attached ~/.xsession-errors.
