One last question before I spend the time doing this. Will this actually
work if pulse isn't actually completely failing? I'm not positive pulse
actually dies, the reason I say this is because when pulse has died the
volume buttons don't work and if I go into sound options or whatever
it's called it tells me there is no device (or something similar). But
after the HDMI cuts out I'm able to control volume still (doesn't do
anything to resolve it), and I can go into sound options to switch back
to my internal speakers.

I'm about ready to take a video of the problem just to show what I'm
talking about. Doubt it'll help anything but at least then I could have
evidence that I'm not going crazy ;)
