Hi!

Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
Unfortunately the solutions you are proposing aren't the best, since
they involve either manual changes every time the system is being booted
(and assigned an IP), or changing attributes for resolv.conf which tends
to cause issues during system upgrades.

The right way to fix this should be instead to modify the connection
settings to have NetworkManager only request IP information for the
connection. You can do this by right clicking the NM applet, selecting
"Edit connections", then clicking Modify once your connection is
selected. Then, go to the IPv4 Settings tab and use the drop-down to
choose "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only". You can then enter DNS
nameserver IPs in the text field that becomes enabled, as well as other
options.

Note that this remains just a workaround for routers that don't properly
handle specific DNS requests. Please see if there is a firmware update
available for your router to let it understand (presumably, following
other reports) AAAA record requests. The whole point of the default
config with Automatic DHCP is to give addresses and all additional
information required to establish a full connection to the internet.

Since this is not an issue in NetworkManager, I'm marking this report as
Invalid.

Thanks for reporting this! Please don't hesitate to report any future
issues you find.
