I have the problem where the Nvidia driver will not load and a get low- res screens only. I had high res-screens and they vanished as I was working last week The xorg.log contains crap like above, BTW why don't the designers of this blog collapse long attachments into GUI tabs rather than forcing us to scroll through all that crap? This is especially true when the kernel broke your high-res screens :-) I got: $ sudo depmod -a [sudo] password for brucesalem: brucesalem:~ 01:33:01 $ sudo modprobe nvidia FATAL: Module nvidia not found. Linux brucesalem-desktop 2.6.27-17-server #1 SMP Fri Mar 12 02:48:52 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux This problem occured for me on both Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10 on the same system. I cannot use nvidia-xconfig or the screen resolution GUI. pcimodules sees the module. $ more *pci* k8temp nvidiafb shpchp pata_acpi ata_generic sata_nv forcedeth pata_acpi ata_generic pata_amd snd-hda-intel ehci-hcd ohci-hcd i2c-nforce2 I got high res from Windows Vista and from Knoppix 5.1.1 Live CD. Reading the related bug where changes will not be made to restricted modules it sounds like the card has become unsppported hardware. If so, I'll head for the exit and uninstall Ubuntu. Until that fateful decision, any useful help would be apprecated. -- nvidia packages contain kernel modules compiled using older gcc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226983 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
