Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch) Release: 10.10 When I unplug my USB sound card, which works fine, the pulse audio process goes to 100% CPU (on one processor) and remains in that state. Attempts at a restart result in: $ pse pulse 2192 ? 00:00:42 pulseaudio $ sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart * PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions $ pse pulse 2192 ? 00:00:42 pulseaudio But the process is not really restarted. The only way to stop it is to kill it, but then it is not possible to start to process. m...@niff:~ $ pse pulse 2192 ? 00:00:42 pulseaudio m...@niff:~ $ kill 2192 m...@niff:~ $ pse pulse m...@niff:~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart * PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions m...@niff:~ $ pse pulse There are a few issues here: 1. The messages aren't useful, indeed they are inaccurate, and need to be improved 2. There is no log file in /var/log, so how does one debug? 3. The process shouldn't go to 100% CPU 4. It should be possible to force a process restart 5. It should be possible to start the process once killed. $ apt-cache policy pulseaudio pulseaudio: Installed: 1:0.9.22~git20100719-0ubuntu1~ppa2 Candidate: 1:0.9.22~git20100719-0ubuntu1~ppa2 Version table: *** 1:0.9.22~git20100719-0ubuntu1~ppa2 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu17 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- pulseaudio process goes to 100% CPU and cannot be restarted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/636901 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
