When you say audio won't work? What exactly do you mean? You said you tried Amarok which doesn't work. What else have you tried, audio playback wise?
You could try updating your alsa drivers, as outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules.
