I've checked if this bug is still an issue of the final version of Ubuntu 10.04. I've closed my laptop about 10 times and everything is still OK with my Ubuntu 10.04. :) However, computer's going to sleep wasn't perfect. Actually it was perfect about 5 times and the other 5 times of closing laptop had some issues. I list them here: 1. After closing laptop and opening again the screen is black only with mouse cursor. Nothing happens after some minutes. (experienced about 2-3 times) 2. After ... everything is ok (locked screen-unlocking) A few seconds later the screen becoming black (you know, when it looks that something not normal happening with the screen, If necessary I can show a photo of this process). Not possible to control OS. (experienced 1 time) 3. Opened gimp, opened a photo there, applying cartoon effect, process taking place-closed laptop, while process is still taking place-opened-the screen looks the same as earlier: computer hasn't gone to sleep, the screen not locked, the process if still taking place-process (applying cartoon filter) ended-closed laptop-laptop didn't go to sleep-opened-closed all programs-laptop closed again-didn't go to sleep-some times repeated with the same result-choose 'shut down' from the menu in the top right corner-the normal shutting down purple screen (as boot splash)-after some minutes the computer is still in process of shutting down, that purple screen is still here-nothing changes (experienced 1 time, that was the only time I tried that with GIMP)
Overall, I sill experience issues when closing the laptop, but after turning off the computer with long pressing of the button in my laptop and booting Ubuntu again, everything look ok (there are no warnings), looks like booting normally and I believe it is so. Also I've realized that the result can be different each time so maybe that means that the risk of loosing an OS still exists. (However earlier one time was enough to make Ubuntu not to load again, so maybe now that issue doesn't exist no more).
