After my sound went mute I made a system test of my sound and was sent to this bug report. I have all the symptoms listed in the first post, but since the methods suggested in this thread are quite heavy, I surfed around a bit more and I succeded in solving my issue following advice in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa- utils/+bug/352732?comments=all - my post is #111.
