@Gonzo - As you wrote of a "rock solid" 2.6.35-19-generic kernel in this context, I switched from my recent 2.6.35-19-generic-pae kernel to your non-PAE version, since I don't need PAE anyway. Both kernel taken from the Maverick backports.
Observation: - 2.6.35-19-generic-pae crashes suddenly with Chrome running, "blinking caps lock syndrome". - 2.6.35-19-generic took longer to crash with Chrome running, freezes hard, no "caps lock syndrome". Both versions run stable when not using Chrome.
