Ok, so I guess this should be fixed for my "Abit AN78HD" too (HDD is Western Digital WD5000AACS 500 GB).
lspci says: "IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP78S [GeForce 8200] SATA Controller (non-AHCI mode) (rev a2)" The corresponding module should be "pata_amd" I think. Taking a quick look at the modules source it seems the above patch won't work.
