I am having a similar problem with Synaptic 0.62.5 on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. Using the "All" list and entering "gmp" in Quick Search I see several entries with gmp both starting with the text and containing the text, such as libgmp3-doc. However, I don't see libgmp3c2 which is installed. It is not shown at all.
If I change the Quick Search text to "libgmp" I now see the libgmp3c2 as well as others. libgmp3c2 should show up in both listings!
