I was tired of struggling with it... so I decided to upgrade PulseAudio and ALSA with this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~ricotz/+archive/unstable Unfortunately I can't get that log for you... but PulseAudio seems to work fine since I did that upgrade. It only doesn't work for the login screen and logging in sound.
