In my case, the bug appeared immediately after upgrading from lucid to maveric. I moved .mozilla to .mozilla-bak. Afterwards, firefox starts and sometimes it's possible to surf to one other website than the start page for a really short time. Time between firefox start and crash: less than 5 seconds.
