for general information - the fix is to install the restricted package. the driver is restricted, in the way ubuntu can distribute it, so needs to be in the linux-restricted-modules.
For understanding packages being kept back, you may want to look at man apt-get - it explains a lot more of this. By the way, it's not a problem in not understanding something - don't take it personally. Just look for the way to understand it, and research it a bit if you're interested, so you know for next time.
