I have the same error message during boot-process with a clean install of 10.04 (x64).
But the system comes up, if I boot without external HDMI monitor connected. I'm able to boot with the external monitor if I do the following: - Press "E" in GRUB startup page - Add option "noplymouth" at the end of the line - Boot with that option, pressing "Strg+X" Unfortunately I got a very low screen resolution (640x480) after that, but this seems to be another problem.
