Public bug reported:

I have tried multiple fixes and upgrades as you can read on the
following web page: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1555874.
None of these were effective and I still don't get any sound trough my
sound card.
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release: 10.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

defa...@default-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy alsa-driver
W: Unable to locate package alsa-driver

3) What you expected to happen
To get sound trough my speakers

4) What happened instead
Nothing

I have checked every possible option to see if nothing is muted or
turned off. As far as I can see everything appears normal, but I don't
hear any sound.
