Public bug reported: Binary package hint: smplayer
Since the upgrade to xserver 1.9 in Maverick, smplayer has been unable to play any video using Xv as the Video output. The file still plays and I can hear the audio, but the section of the player that should have the video is transparent, and I can see the desktop beneath the window. The transparency is even in effect when in fullscreen. Also, since gnome-mplayer is unusable due to a unfixed bug I reported over a month ago (#604902), I am left without a decent gui for mplayer. I am currently running mplayer from the commandline instead, but I am not happy about being forced to use it in such a manner. Can someone please fix one of these players soon?
