If I can reproduce the bug when the quiet kernel option is set (this disables console output to speed up boot), does this analysis still hold water? Same for commenting out output to /dev/console in init files. There may be an issue according to the analysis, but am not sure whether it is the root cause of the symptoms in this bug.
