Thank you for reporting!

I bought one of these mice (Lucid) recently and came across an issue
like this, but the mouse would resume shortly after it hung ("choppy"
was a better description)

I experimented a bit and moving the mouse really close to the sensor
(even though it claims to work across the room) seemed to help a bit.

This forum thread recommends disabling the trackpad on the laptop: can
you confirm if that is any help?

sudo apt-get install gpointing-device-settings
gpointing-device-settings
disable trackpad
