Looks like I may have the same error. It first occurred after I updated the packages below. So far, the error occurs every time I reboot, but the "onset" varies. Sometimes the system freezes before the login screen even comes up, other times it freezes at the login screen, and a few times I've been able to login and start doing things before the system froze (but never for more than a few minutes).
When the system's frozen, Ctrl + Alt + F1 won't work. However, I did manage to get logged into tty1 *before* a freeze and observed the "Faild to schedule IB" errors. The setting from #7 didn't work for me. $ cat /var/log/apt/history.log Start-Date: 2010-08-05 14:08:51 Upgrade: linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic (2.6.32-24.38, 2.6.32-24.39), linux-headers-2.6.32-24 (2.6.32-24.38, 2.6.32-24.39), google-chrome-unstable (6.0.472.14-r54133, 6.0.472.22-r54852), mysql-client-core-5.1 (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3, 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6), mysql-common (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3, 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6), linux-libc-dev (2.6.32-24.38, 2.6.32-24.39), mysql-server-core-5.1 (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3, 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6), linux-headers-2.6.32-24-generic (2.6.32-24.38, 2.6.32-24.39), libmysqlclient16 (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3, 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6) End-Date: 2010-08-05 14:12:13 -- Xorg freeze: "Failed to schedule IB" Radeon X1200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586243 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
