That may be true, but it's far more likely to find something INconsistent, confusing and counter-intuitive. I would likely find it impossible to adapt to your desired behavior. Every device I've ever seen, that has a mute feature (this excludes iPods and such, since they only have "zero volume"), tends to unmute when you press volume-up, as well as stepping up one from the previous volume.
