This looks like a gnome problem. Suspending from the shutdown menu causes the cursor to disappear on resume on my thinkpad T43, but suspending with a keyboard shortcut (presumably handled by ACPI) does not reproduce the bug. Upgrading the kernel to 2.6.34 also did not fix the bug.
