under lucid, when i attach the usb bluetooth dongle a small bluetooth
icon appears in the system tray. when i click the mouse i get a
prompt (attached) asking me if i want to allow the device to connect,
if i allow it, nothing seems to happen.

if i then go and click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray it
allows me to connect to a new bluetooth device, and the logitech mouse
appears. i select it and complete the wizard and voila it works!

thanks guys, you are my heroes! :)
