This is quite like my failure.  One point to add is that this occurred
after a new install of the daily build ISO of about July 20, when I
updated the system to the current repository states with the Synaptic
Package Manager.  Pretty plain vanilla, but there was a lot of traffic
on the 802.11n wireless network at the time.
