Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: modemmanager
Ubuntu 10.04, netbook remix on MSI Wind U100.
Huawei E220 (uses 'option' module) works fine after clean reboot, sleep,
hibernate, disconnect, reconnect.
After disconnecting USB modem, and using a PL2303 based usb-serial converter
with gtkterm, removing the PL2303, reconnecting E220, modem-manager fails to
discover the modem.
Unloading of modules option, pl2303, usbserial and modem-manager restart does
not help, needs a reboot.
Patched the E220 with the latest official firmware.
