Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel
First off, sorry if this is duplicate of an other bug; I couldn't see any bug that describe this problem precisely. After resuming (usually after a few suspend / resume cycles), or after coming out of theç screensaver (later after a resume), elements of gnome-panel are not displayed, and others are replaced (or covered) by a fully white zone. The missing elements are the main gnome menu and the launchers (shortcuts to Firefox for instance). The white elements are the window changer and the notification area (NOT indicator applet). All my other elements are there as usual, that means all my other applets including CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor, Clock, Show Desktop, Indicator Applet, Me Menu and Indicator Applet Session, Worskspace Switcher, Garbage Bin Applet, System Monitor and Tomboy. However, the elements hidden under the white zones (Window changer and stuff in the notification area) react to mouse-over and left- and right- clicks. So they are just hidden, not unusable. On the other hand, the panel won't react to right-clicks. Killing gnome-panel doesn't always solve the issue, as sometimes the process simply restarts and cleans up, but sometimes hangs around as a zombie process, requiring to close the session and restart gnome to clean up. This bug isn't that easily triggered and reproducible, basically “it happens sometimes”™. Let me know if I can provide more information.
