Tried the same test with Lucid Desktop i386, and the same thing
happened, except that it prompted to hit "s" or "m."

I don't really want to have to comment out any entries in fstab before I
upgrade the kernel, especially if I don't have physical access to the
machine to hit "s" if I forget.
