Public bug reported: I'm running on an Asus Eee PC 1005HA netbook, with an Intel Atom processor (1.66GHz) with 1GB of RAM.
After running on Jaunty for a year, I decided it's time to switch to Lucid. I did a clean install, erasing my old partitions. During the install, the installer froze twice (keyboard/mouse unresponsive, display not changing). After getting through the installer, everything worked fine for a week, then I attempted to install a few Perl modules (through CPAN). Suddenly, my computer would start hard-locking at random intervals. Sometimes during module installation, other times during simple browsing. It happens completely randomly, many times a day, but I have no way to induce it purposefully. I asked on IRC, and was told about the Magic SysRQ. During the last lock, I tried the reboot sequence (Alt+SysRQ+REISUB), but to no avail, it was hopelessly locked, which I'm assuming means a kernel panic has occured (I have no NumLock/ScrollLock lights to confirm that). I don't know what other debugging info I can provide, because I don't have a serial console to see what the kernel is panicking with (if it is). I've tried reinstalling Lucid, but the problem remains. What can I do?
