same problem here, Toshiba AX/940 LS. Suspend and hibernate can freeze
the machine completely  Power button does turn it off, but when pressed
back, the box returns to the state of coma and nothing wakes it up.  It
is necessary to disconnect AC and take out the battery to get it back to
life.


What is worse, it happened also once or twice when the system crashed during 
shutdown.
