Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dpkg

i was trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 when it ran into problems.
the main error is probably related to disk issues. i need to run fsck on
one of my drives. however even after a failed/partial upgrade, my system
is still usable.

when i used update manager, i got this xcursor-themes related bug. i'm
using the 'report' feature to file this bug.
