Just compiling the source of a xpdf port that I'm developing (loosely based on a work of Martin Pitt) and trying to execute it gives me the problem that some users reported. I went on to confirm it and, yes, it is there. No need to even pass any pdf file to it. Since I am using Debian unstable for my development, I am not affected by it, but using an amd64 install of lucid revealed the problem instantly and 100% reproducibly.
